We are an advocate and organizer for  Sarah’s Sweetwater Greenway Gathering

Why is it so important to us?

Sarah’s Sweetwater Greenway Gathering is a local celebration of Gainesville’s unique artistic, environmental, and civic heritage and an acknowledgement of the need to uplift the cultural identities of our historic neighborhoods. This joint effort provides residents who live and work along the city-proposed route of a greenway the opportunity to come together as neighbors and strengthen their bonds of community, as well as contribute their voices and their ideas to the creative visioning process. Idea: link other historic associations and groups contributing to the cause

Here’s how people responded to our community input board when asked,

“ what are the economic, environmental, or social benefits of this greenway to your neighborhood?”

  • PROMOTING HEALTH

  • Nature is good for mental health, + great for enjoying with others!

  • Connectedness needs to come with MORE support vs low income households getting "shuffled along"

  • More opportunities for local businesses to open up on the Greenway!

  • sense of connectedness

  • Providing a means for people to move + get around

We are monitoring developments.

We believe the historic neighborhood which will be most directly impacted by the build out of this greenway should be made of all developments.

  • Are you a part of one of these neighborhoods? Email xyzz

We are using communal creativity.

We believe the greenway should be informed by the creative process, and the voice of those most directly impacted.

  • Specify action they can take/ we are taking
